Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be in a formal leadership role?

No. You might be leading a practice or team, mentoring colleagues, contributing to committees, teaching, advocating for change or considering your next step. You need an interest in developing your leadership and opportunities to put your learning into practice.

Is this suitable if I’ve already been leading for years?

Yes. The program is designed for midwives who have had little or no structured leadership development, regardless of how long they’ve been leading. If you’ve already completed extensive formal leadership training, some of the content may be familiar.

Do I need to apply?

No application is required. After registration, we’ll ask you to complete a short intake questionnaire so we can learn about your experience, goals and what you hope to gain.

When does the program run?

The program begins February 25, 2027, and concludes with the Leadership Summit and Graduation on February 24, 2028.

Learning Labs and Coaching Circles take place on Thursdays, 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. Eastern Time, on the dates listed on the main program page. There are no Labs or Circles in July or August.

How is the program delivered?

All sessions take place online via Zoom. The program includes 10 three-hour Leadership Learning Labs, 10 three-hour Leadership Coaching Circles, and a one-day virtual Leadership Summit.

You’ll learn with a small cohort, combining practical tools and discussion with coaching, reflection and opportunities to apply your learning.

What is the difference between a Learning Lab and a Coaching Circle?

Learning Labs introduce leadership concepts, frameworks and skills through discussion, activities and real-world examples.

Coaching Circles provide space to explore what happens when you put those ideas into practice. You’ll reflect, work through real challenges, receive coaching and learn from other participants.

How much time should I allow between sessions?

Allow time for reflection, occasional reading, assessments and your Leadership Impact Project. Much of the application can happen within your existing work: trying a different approach to a conversation, asking for feedback or putting a leadership tool into practice.

The amount of additional time will vary with your goals and project.

What if I miss a session?

We encourage you to attend as consistently as possible. The conversation, coaching and relationships are an important part of the experience.

Session recordings, where available, and program resources will help you catch up. Recordings are for registered participants only and must not be shared outside the program. Missed sessions do not qualify for a refund or fee reduction.

What assessments are included?

The program includes Lumina Leader and Lumina Leader 360.

Lumina Leader helps you explore your leadership strengths, patterns and areas for development. Lumina Leader 360 adds feedback from others about how they experience your leadership and includes a confidential individual debrief.

We chose Lumina because leadership development starts with understanding yourself—and being willing to understand how others experience you.

Lumina looks beyond a fixed personality “type.” It helps you explore the different qualities you bring to leadership, how you adapt to different situations and what can happen when you’re under pressure. It also helps you notice when a strength you rely on may be getting in your way.

Lumina Leader gives you a detailed picture of your leadership strengths and areas for development. We’ll explore your results together and connect them to the realities of your leadership.

Lumina Leader 360 adds another valuable perspective: feedback from people who experience your leadership firsthand. A confidential individual debrief will help you make sense of that feedback, recognise strengths others value and identify practical opportunities to grow.

We chose these tools for their depth, flexibility and emphasis on development. The point is to turn insight into choices—how you communicate, build relationships, respond under pressure and lead more effectively.

Preparation instructions and assessment timelines will be provided after registration.

What is the Leadership Impact Project?

It’s an opportunity to apply your learning to a meaningful leadership challenge, initiative or opportunity in your own professional setting.

It could involve improving team communication, strengthening a process, supporting colleagues or influencing change. You don’t need to arrive with a fully developed idea. You’ll shape it during the program and share your learning and impact at the closing Summit.

What does the program cost?

The program fee is $3,800 CAD, with two payment options:

  • Pay in full: $3,800 at registration.

  • Payment plan: $500 at registration, followed by six monthly payments of $550 on February 5, March 5, April 5, May 5, June 5 and July 5, 2027.

The $500 deposit is included in the total fee.

Is there an early-registration offer?

Yes. Register by January 15, 2027, and receive a complimentary 60-minute individual leadership coaching session, valued at $300 CAD, with either payment option.

You must add the complimentary coaching session to your cart when registering. The session will be scheduled separately by mutual agreement.

Can I use this program for continuing education hours and professional development funding?

Yes—the program provides 66 hours of scheduled leadership development, including 30 hours of Learning Labs, 30 hours of Coaching Circles and a six-hour Leadership Summit, plus additional assessment, reflection and project work. A certificate of completion is provided.

These activities may count towards your continuing education or professional development requirements. Check with your regulatory body to confirm eligibility and how to document your learning.
